2 teens arrested in alleged shooting plot targeting Corona High School in Riverside County

CORONA, Calif. (KABC) — Police say two teenage girls were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to carry out a shooting at Corona High School.

Authorities said the investigation began Oct. 6 after the FBI alerted the Corona Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office to social media threats aimed at the school.

Detectives arrested a 15-year-old female student who attends Corona High School. After searching several homes in Riverside County, going through devices and emails, detectives identified and arrested another 15-year-old girl who attends Norco High School.

According to Corona police, search warrants revealed that the two teens spent several months researching school shootings and discussing how they could potentially carry out an attack at Corona High School.

The investigation also revealed that the two men discussed how they could obtain weapons to carry out the attack, police said.

Authorities added that no weapons were found during searches of the home. The two teenagers remain in custody on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.

Further details, including when the alleged attack was supposed to take place, were not immediately known. The investigation is still ongoing.

The fact that both suspects are girls is rare. Research cited by NPR found that only about 3 percent of school shootings involve women.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Corona PD Det. Edwards at 951-279-3656 or george.edwards@coronaca.gov.
