They buried the sickle!
House of Representatives candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier continued her push for the city’s top cop to step down Thursday — as she gloated on air about her nemesis, Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The spokesperson for the Democratic Socialists of America doubled down on his criticism of Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and called for her resignation on WNYC Radio — while downplaying the rift between her and Mamdani over her ongoing crusade against Hizzoner’s choice to lead the NYPD.

Chevalier – who sparked a DSA-backed pressure campaign to try to get the mayor to fire Tisch – claimed she had just spoken with Mamdani and they remained socialist thieves.
“The fact that she rather than condemning, you know, the actions of ICE or recognizing that there needs to be a serious investigation into the behavior of the New York Police Department,” Chevalier said. “I’ve been very clear that I think it was up to Jessica Tisch to step down. I think she was the one who didn’t need this moment.”
The national DSA and several left-wing political figures have been calling for Tisch’s ouster since last week, when federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shot and killed an illegal immigrant who was trying to evade arrest in the Bronx.
Officers opened fire on Dominican Republic native and suspected gangbanger Oscar Beldal as he attempted to flee an ICE arrest in a car with a 5-year-old passenger.
Some liberal activists blamed the NYPD boss and said they violated pro-illegal immigrant “sanctuary laws” in the Empire State by working with federal immigration agents, even though local police were not involved in the shooting.
Chevalier twisted himself into a pretzel for not mentioning Mamdani’s role in the appointment of Tisch – a Zionist Jew – and her continued public support for her top cop.
Instead, she praised the mayor for promising some sort of investigation into the NYPD’s response to the shooting and the handling of anti-ICE protests that arose after the shooting.
“I also think that the mayor and I are or agree on most of this, right? He already dedicates funds to accountability, right, to accountability mechanisms for the NYPD,” she said. “He’s already said there will be a full investigation into what happened within 24 hours after the shooting and, you know, I think and he also said he’s working on disbanding the (Strategic Response Group).”
Chevalier and other DSA members have repeatedly called for the dissolution of the SSR, which they describe as violent – a campaign promise Mamdani has yet to keep.
She pushed back on the growing rift between Hizzoner and his fellow hand-picked candidate for New York’s 13th congressional seat, revealed by The Post, saying the two talked all the time and had a “great relationship.”
“I don’t really think about what the New York Post says,” she told host Bridget Bergin.

“When the mayor and I talked about the article after it came out, we joked about how ridiculous the article itself was,” Chevalier continued. “There’s nothing true in that New York Post article. And, you know, I think there is: We have a great relationship.”
But Mamdani, when pressed at an unrelated news conference, refused to say whether he had spoken with Chevalier while ignoring that his administrator was “angry” with her over her attacks on Tisch.
“I will start by saying that this information is completely false,” he said. “Darializa is not only a close friend, but also an ally, and she will be an incredible champion for this city in Congress. »
A representative for the mayor later confirmed that the two men had spoken.
A close source told the Post that Mamdani was not Chevalier’s biggest fan, with her aides growing increasingly concerned that she was a political liability.
But another source with knowledge of the two’s relationship noted that the situation was “delicate” because Chevalier is now dating the mayor’s lawyer, Ramzi Kassem, who wields outsized power in the administration.
During her appearance on the radio show “Who’s Running This Place,” Chevalier complained about being shoved by a police officer after clashing with a supervisor and shouting during an aggressive protest in the Bronx following the ICE shooting.
She deplored that the police officers on site “were not really trying to cooperate with elected officials”.
“Whether it’s, you know, just the idling or the lack of answers being provided,” she bizarrely asserted.
Chevalier also said during her anti-law enforcement speech that she believed the NYPD should have arrested the ICE agents involved in the shooting.
“If you’re investigating a shooting, you’ll apprehend the shooter. But to my knowledge, to date, the shooter has not been apprehended there, even though we know it was an ICE agent.”
Chevalier won a Democratic Party primary against Rep. Adriano Espaillat in the mostly blue Congressional district and is expected to claim victory in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
