Caleb Williams had two full practices this week, but the Bears quarterback insists he doesn’t know if he’ll return for Sunday’s game against the Falcons.
“Before you start asking, I don’t know if I’m already playing,” Williams said Thursday, via Dan Wiederer of TheAthletic.com.
Williams injured his hamstring in a Sept. 20 game and missed the last three games. He said he had checkpoints to go through and a “strength test” to pass before he could play.
In his first media availability since his injury, Williams explained what happened when he fell awkwardly during a red zone scrum in the fourth quarter of the 9-3 loss to the Vikings.
“I felt a pop,” Williams said. “That’s why I looked back. I looked back like everyone does when you feel a pop. (You) think someone caught you, and no one caught me.”
Williams disputed reports that he was diagnosed with the strain, which some have called a grade 2 strain.
“It was a torn hamstring,” Williams said, “and a pretty serious tear.”
Williams did not want to reveal the tear he has.
“We got a note, but I wouldn’t say it’s newsworthy after all the false (reports),” Williams said. “So next question.”
