The Fourth Wing features Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya as Violet and Xaden

“Fourth Wing,” Amazon Prime Video’s television adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ hit romance series, has found its stride.

Esther McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail while Emilio Sakraya will play Xaden Riorson, Variety learned. Amazon declined to comment.

McGregor is best known for starring as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield in Amazon’s “We Were Liars,” with previous credits including Disney+’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and Freevee’s “High School.” Next, she stars in the Amazon series “Life Is Strange”.

Sakraya has a long list of credits in both television and film in her native Germany as well as the United States; his credits include “Rhinegold,” “Tribes of Europa,” and “Warrior Nun.” His other recent projects include “Those About to Die” and he is set to appear in “One Piece” season 3.

“Fourth Wing” is set in the brutal world of the Basgiath War College, where there is only one rule: graduate or die. Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was always expected to lead a quiet life, but she is sent on an entirely different path when her mother, an army general, orders her to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become dragon riders, Navarre’s elite.

Beginning with the release of the New York Times bestseller “Fourth Wing” in May 2023, Yarros’ “The Empyrean” book series currently includes the sequels “Iron Flame” (November 2023) and “Onyx Storm” (January 2025). In September, Yarros released the short story “Threshing Day,” which tells 13 stories set in “The Empyrean” universe. Titles and release dates for the planned fourth and fifth books have not yet been announced.

Ordered to series on Amazon in May, Meredith Averill (“Anne With an E”) is showrunner and executive producer of “Fourth Wing.” The show is also produced by Kilter Films (Lisa Joy – who also directs the pilot, Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham), Outlier Society (Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo) and Premeditated Productions (Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark).
