Ben Affleck says Digger Bomb will lead to ‘crappy homogenized movies’

In the middle of ExcavatorBen Affleck’s box office bomb, warns that those celebrating the film’s poor performance could instead lead to “a bunch of shitty homogenized movies.”

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this Monday, Animals The actor opened up about the poor performance in Tom Cruise’s latest film. He argued that criticizing a “big swing” film could lead to studios later choosing to take a safer approach with their future projects.

“It’s kind of like bullying in high school, with people who hadn’t even seen the movies. You see it happening now, frankly, with Excavator. Everyone wants to celebrate this bomb like it’s the most exciting thing that could happen, and you think it’s a pretty ambitious and interesting movie made by interesting people who are talented,” Affleck said.

“Everyone wants to count money, what they lost or whatever. To me, I just think if you punish films that take risks, guess what you’re going to get? A bunch of shitty, homogenized films,” he explained. “You can’t do something interesting without taking a big hit, and that means you’re going to look bad sometimes.”

In The Hollywood Reporterthe examination of Excavatorchief film critic David Rooney wrote: “Excavator This is essentially what happens when you bring two inflated egos together without anyone holding the reins to control their more indulgent impulses. Helmed by a spectacularly obnoxious Tom Cruise, who obviously spent hours every day in the makeup chair to look his age, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s wannabe Dr Strangelove This is a brutal cataclysm scenario built around the brutal idea that any attempt to stop global warming this late in the game is pure political theater.

Excavator opened with $8 million domestically, for a total of $12 million internationally. The film’s performance at the box office sparked many conversations and caused many celebrities to speak out in support of the film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Among them was Anne Hathaway, who dominated Excavator at the box office with Truth during their opening weekends, giving the film a perfect score. She wrote on Letterboxd: “I loved this brilliant film. It’s smart, trippy, aggressive, funny and ambitious. It’s worth taking the time to see and decide for yourself what you make of it. For me? 10/10.”
