ROSEVILLE, California. —
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 57-year-old woman in Roseville.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Cherie Dodge.
The Roseville Police Department said officers responded to the area of Atlantic Street and South Grant Street for calls about a stabbing around 1 a.m. on Oct. 14.
The neighborhood is close to the railroad tracks and not far from the businesses and new construction of downtown Roseville.
Investigators identified a person of interest and obtained a search warrant for his residence.
On Friday, the Roseville/Rocklin Regional SWAT Team assisted investigators in executing the search warrant at the home in the 100 block of Buckley Court in Roseville.
The teenage suspect was later booked into the Placer County Juvenile Center on suspicion of murder, police said.
Police said there are no other suspects and it does not appear the alleged attacker and the victim knew each other.
“She was an amazing person. She loved everyone. She had the most contagious smile,” said Carlos Brandt, Dodge’s son.
Brandt said his mother has lived in Roseville for 40 years. In recent years, he says she suffered from an undiagnosed mental health disorder that ultimately led her to live on the streets.
She was the mother of five children and had ten grandchildren. Her loved ones created a memorial in her honor on the bench where the family says she was attacked on Wednesday.
“We want people to know that our mother was a person, that her life mattered. That she wasn’t just a homeless woman. She had mental issues that she dealt with, but at the end of the day, (that) doesn’t make her any less of a person,” Brandt said.
