Jena Bishop got her revenge and she is now the PFL women’s flyweight champion.
Friday night at WinTrust Arena saw PFL Chicago fall, with Bishop taking on Liz Carmouche for the vacant PFL flyweight title. Carmouche had just knocked out Bishop last year and was a heavy favorite for this rematch, but Bishop was undeterred, instead scoring a victory over the 42-year-old veteran to capture her first title.
Carmouche came out strong in the first round, hurting Bishop and aiming for the finish. Bishop held on, however, and in the second round it looked like the weight cut really hurt Carmouche, as she faded badly. In the third round, it looked like Bishop would run away with things on the gassed Carmouche, laying back and threatening chokes. But in the fourth round, Bishop seemed to be wearing down as well, and Carmouche rallied by sprawling in top position and dealing some damage to Bishop.
With everything to play for in the fifth round, Carmouche looked fresher, coming out with renewed energy against a fading Bishop. But Carmouche became incredibly reckless, letting Bishop time a takedown and regain control. Bishop then spent much of the round attacking a rear naked choke, even briefly sinking one before Carmouche could fight back. Carmouche tried to escape but just couldn’t get rid of her.
Ultimately, the judges were right, awarding Bishop a unanimous decision victory and the PFL women’s flyweight title.
After the fight, Dakota Ditcheva entered the cage to face Bishop. Ditcheva beat Bishop by TKO in 2024, and the two will now fight for the flyweight title next year.
