Donald Trump once again praises Bill Maher after a dinner he had at the White House with the HBO host along with Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock.
“It was a great dinner, a very informative dinner,” Trump told reporters Friday. “Smart people. Stephen A. is great. Bill Maher – I’ll tell you what. He likes me more than people think, and I actually like him. It was a good dinner.”
Maher had dinner with Trump last year at the White House, and Kid Rock arranged the meeting. But Trump then became angry with Maher, writing on Truth Social in February: “It was a complete waste of my time to have this idiot in the White House.” » He criticized Maher for his humor.
In March, after The Atlantic reported that the Kennedy Center would give Maher its Mark Twain Prize, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt insisted he would not receive the award. But Maher was announced as the recipient the following week. Trump did not attend the June ceremony, but some members of his administration did.
Trump told reporters that at Thursday night’s dinner, “we talked about everything. It went on for a long time. And even though they have to kind of put on a front for their people, they love Trump, and I really love them.” He added that they also visited the ballroom, currently under construction.
