Ikea throws shade at Tesla with ‘safe and affordable’ flying car

Tesla proved this week that it still has a knack for pulling off spectacular marketing stunts, revealing what could be the world’s second flying car during a live-streamed event. The flying Tesla Roadster Rocket Edition – or at least a concept for one – was designed to ride up a half-pipe, perform a kickflip and then glide to the ground using SpaceXAI thrusters and compressed air.

The production car won’t arrive until at least 2028, may not be road legal and can be reserved by invitation only, apparently requiring a $500,000 deposit. For anyone unable to part with that much cash under a reservation deal that explicitly states there is no delivery guarantee, Ikea believes it has a safer, more affordable option, available in stores today.
