UNC injury report Friday: Several Tar Heel starters ruled out vs. Duke

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina will be without several starters when it takes on Duke in Saturday afternoon’s rivalry game with the Blue Devils. Starting defensive back Cost of Kaleb was ruled out of Saturday’s game, alongside wide receiver Mason Humphrey.

The cost had been rated questionable throughout the week before being downgraded on Friday, while Humphrey’s inclusion marks his first appearance in the availability report this week. The duo joins the defensive back Tre Millerwho was injured in last weekend’s win at Pitt and was already ruled out earlier in the week.

Inside Carolina reported Sunday that Cost is expected to miss time following his first-quarter injury at Pitt, although his injury is not considered a long-term concern. Meanwhile, sources have indicated that Miller’s injury could be season-ending.

Elsewhere in the injury report, there is some encouraging news for the Tar Heels. Rusher on the starting edge Jaylen Harvey and defensive back Peyton Waterswho had both been listed as probable throughout the week, were removed from the report, signaling that both are on track to dress Saturday.

The availability of several other starters remains uncertain ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game, with defensive back Greg Smithdefensive lineman Isaiah Johnsonoffensive lineman Jordan Room and tight end Jordan Washington all listed as questionable.
