We got an Ivy League thriller at the three-pack college football weekend appetizer Friday night, with the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University going all the way in Philadelphia.
That’s correct. Penn and Columbia. While the rest of the country was oscillating between Memphis, App State, and Purdue, I was locked in the Ivy League battle of the year.

It’s called GRINDING, folks. Look it up.
HERE’S WHY, EVEN WITH ALL ITS PROBLEMS, COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS STILL BETTER THAN THE NFL

Either way, I’m glad I did, because this one had it all. Great moments. Great returns. Big games. And of course, a finish that left me completely speechless on many levels.
Before diving into the Xs and Os, take a look:
I feel like an Ivy League school should have thought about this
Amazing. You just don’t expect this kind of stupidity from an Ivy League roster, do you? Of course, there are other programs where you wouldn’t be surprised to see this level of idiocy (I won’t name names), but not Penn. Not the IVY LEAGUE.
They’re supposed to be the smartest guys on the planet, and they can’t have a simple fire drill with the clock ticking? Take the ball and SPIKE it!
Why are they rushing their field goal kicker there? There was plenty of time. He realized there were 10 seconds left. The clock stops on a first down in college football when there are less than two minutes left in the half.

So the clock has stopped. There was still plenty of time left. And they instead chose to sprint the field goal unit down the field and have the kicker quickly attempt a 52-yard field goal? Obviously the kicker had no idea what was going on, anyway. None. That’s why he was the last to enter the field.
He sprinted toward the camera with four seconds left, barely lined up (he’d been looking too closely), then came up woefully short with the kick.
Game over. Colombia wins.

Amazing.

We’ve seen a lot of stupid football over the past week, mostly outside of the NFL. Nick Sirianni was doing stupid things across the pond with the ill-fated kickoff, then Jayden Daniels and the Commanders were executing what might be the stupidest play ever in overtime against the Giants.
I won’t put this Penn disaster on track that level, but it’s up there. A quick spike of the ball, and perhaps an extra passing play to try and gain 3-4 free yards would have put the kicker in a much better position. Uh. He will probably pierce it if that happens.

Instead we got…whatever that was.
I think we all expected better from an Ivy League school.
