Intel has confirmed that its next generation Razor Lake-AX SoC will launch in 2028, bringing increased AI capabilities.
Intel SVP confirms Nova Lake for 2027 and Razor Lake for 2028 – AX SoCs push AI TOPS to 700
At the “Semiconductors Powering Humanoids” seminar in Samseong-dong, South Korea, Intel Senior Vice President Cho Min-sung confirmed the next-generation Nova Lake and Razor Lake SoCs. These SoCs will arrive in 2027 and 2028 respectively.
Intel Nova Lake processors have been anticipated for a while and we have quite a bit of information covered in previous articles. But Intel naming Razor Lake this year was definitely a surprise. The head of the company highlighted the performance of the chip, which seems impressive.

“We plan to deliver performance at the 700 TOPS level with the next generation Nova Lake early next year and the Razer Lake AX in 2028.”
Cho Min-Sung (senior vice president of Intel) via The Elec
Min-sung said Intel’s Razor Lake-AX SoCs will offer 700 TOPS of AI computing, a 3.88x increase over existing Panther Lake “Core Series 3” chips, which offer 180 TOPS. Intel Razor Lake-AX SoCs will not be a traditional computing platform. It will be similar to AMD’s Ryzen Halo platform, offering multiple cores, massive GPUs, and increased memory capacities. The chip will be aimed at high-end devices and one of the markets it will tackle is physical AI.
Intel said Razor Lake-AX’s 700 TOPS will far surpass the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin platform, which offers 275 TOPS. This represents a 2.5x increase in AI calculation. NVIDIA recently released updated versions of its Jetson SoCs, which scale from 160 to 275 TOPS in the consumer segment. These platforms have 8 GB and up to 64 GB of VRAM. The Jetson Thor T2000 platform offers around 400 TFLOPS while the T3000 offers 865 TFLOPS of FP4 AI computing. These chips are rated at 40W and 70W respectively.

Having a large memory pool is essential for AI, so Intel will likely have a unified, expanded pool available on Razor Lake-AX SoCs. These SoCs are expected to feature onboard memory, which will be a return to the MoP design first introduced on the Lunar Lake “Core Series 2” SoCs a few years ago.
As the industry ramps up its AI efforts, physical chips and AI-specific agents are becoming the new standard. We’ve seen NVIDIA venture into the PC space with its latest RTX Spark SoCs, and AMD has been offering Ryzen AI MAX+ Halo chips for some time. Intel creating its own SoC and focusing on the agentic/physical AI space will further accelerate these segments. Intel’s Panther Lake is already a powerful solution in the physical AI space, and Nova Lake/Razor Lake will only take them further into this growing market.
