The early access portion of the Modern Warfare 4 campaign has gone live yesterdayand fans around the world have flocked to get a glimpse of this year’s highly anticipated Call of Duty title. The marketing loop has created immeasurable hype for this year’s installment of the first-person shooter series, and people are eagerly awaiting the arrival of multiplayer, DMZand the esports action is about to begin.
On SteamEarly impressions of Modern Warfare 4 pushed the franchise into territory it hasn’t seen since many years. It’s early days, but reviewer opinion has, at the time of writing, made Modern Warfare 4 the highest-rated Call of Duty game, on Steamin more than a decade.
Modern Warfare 4 impresses users on PC
We have a limited number of players to play with, but as of the time I publish this article, Modern Warfare 4 has managed to achieve a positive rating of 81.15% on Steam. This makes it the highest-rated Call of Duty game since Black Ops III in 2015.
Here is the distribution of scores for the last eleven Call of Duty games on Steam (rating: MW4 rating, especially, will change radically in the days and weeks to come):
- Modern Warfare 4 – 81.15%
- Black operations 7 – 38.71%
- Black operations 6 – 45.75%
- Modern Warfare III – 48.19%
- Modern Warfare II – 47.10%
- Vanguard – 65.94%
- Cold War – 77.95%
- Modern Warfare – 77.86%
- World War II – 69.72%
- Infinite War – 61.28%
- Black Ops III – 84.36%
What’s more interesting about this list is that Black Ops Cold War, the “rushed” title that everyone seemed to hate, ranks higher than Modern Warfare 2019, the “watershed” game that refreshed the franchise, introduced Warzone, and rebooted the MW sub-series.
I’m going to stress Again that the review score will probably have changed by the time you see this article, but it gives an idea of the big picture; that’s for sure. And I’ll also point out that the review scores come from early adopters, those who wanted to pay extra or sooner to get a first look at the game’s campaign, a week before the global launch.
These are the players who are more primed to enjoy Modern Warfare 4.
You also have a small pool to work with, with the game only having 900 user reviews at the time of writing.
Expectations were high, technological advancements seem to have pushed Modern Warfare 4 to dizzying new heights, and friends seem to love he. At least they like it campaign. The multiplayer portion of the game is another thing entirely.
