Two people, including child, killed after person drives during Kansas football game | Kansas

Two people, including a child, were killed at a football game in Wichita, Kansas, when a person drove a vehicle across the field at the Stryker Football Complex, police confirmed. Several other people were injured.

The driver of the vehicle is in custody, Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department said at a news conference Saturday. There were two minors in the vehicle, he said.

Police confirmed a child and an adult were killed at the scene, but are not releasing any names or ages until family can be notified. “It’s a tragedy,” Moses said. The injured were taken to hospital but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Moses said he did not know how fast the vehicle was traveling or how it got onto the property.

Authorities are still investigating and the city said all events at the soccer complex are canceled until further notice. Wichita police have set up a portal for anyone to submit video evidence of the incident.

A witness told local news station KWCH that a black van was seen “driving around the youth soccer fields.” The truck hit several people before stopping 100-200 meters away in the fields, the witness said. They reported seeing dozens of rescuers providing aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the victims.

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu posted a message on social media: “I am heartbroken by reports of a tragic incident at the Stryker Sports Complex. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved, especially the children and families involved.”
