MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — Gavin Newsom packed town hall meetings and cheers from many Democrats with his promise of a “blue tsunami” in the midterms.
But as he toured this primary state on Saturday, some of New Hampshire’s most connected Democrats were already wondering what exactly the California governor had to offer.
“I have no sense, with Gavin Newsomas to what would encourage people to get on board,” former rep. Annie Kuster told POLITICO.
Kusterlongtime supporter of Pete Buttigieg, described Newsom as “flashy,” saying of New Hampshire voters: “They’re not looking for some kind of traditional big government, big state, ‘Oh, whoo-hoo!’ It’s the governor.” They don’t know how being governor of California is going to translate into making their lives better in New Hampshire (and) this focus on the high cost of living, this focus on corruption in Washington.”
