The Philadelphia Eagles have changed their mind after consulting a number of doctors and medical experts and will place quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve after a superficial blood clot was discovered in his leg.
According to Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, while the Eagles initially did not plan to put Hurts on IR, the information they received led them to decide to shut him down indefinitely.

Hurts has already been ruled out for this week’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Once placed on IR, he will be out for at least four weeks.
The Eagles released a statement Thursday saying Hurts asked the team’s training staff to treat his calf on Oct. 8 after it was cramped during a game against the Los Angeles Rams a few days earlier. An ultrasound was performed on October 10 after the team flew to London. The results showed a superficial blood clot, but doctors and medical staff concluded that “activity and mobility were high and Jalen was safe to play.”

The team says Hurts, who was injury-free before the game, played “without limitations” last weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars and was able to practice fully Wednesday after receiving treatment earlier in the week.

A follow-up ultrasound was performed Wednesday and “revealed movement in the small blood clot.”
Hurts will miss Week 6 and there is currently no timetable for a return. The Eagles said they are in communication with the NFL on the matter.
Tanner McKee, who has played in six career NFL games since being drafted in 2023, will start for the Eagles.
