NFL summary: Panthers hurt Eagles in free fall; Cardinals shock Rams | NFL

Carolina Panthers 25-14 Philadelphia Eagles

Bryce Young threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns to Tommy Tremble, and Chuba Hubbard ran for 120 yards and a score to lead the Carolina Panthers (3-2) past the injury-riddled Philadelphia Eagles (2-4). The Panthers had little trouble in the second half picking apart the Eagles, who were missing quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley. Hurts is on injured reserve and will miss at least four games with a blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee started for Philadelphia and finished 26 of 45 for 215 yards and a touchdown.

Chicago Bears 31-23 Atlanta Falcons

Caleb Williams completed his first 12 passes in his return from a hamstring injury, D’Andre Swift scored two touchdowns and the Chicago Bears (4-2) beat the Atlanta Falcons (2-4). The Bears led 31-7 before holding off Atlanta’s comeback attempt in the final quarter. Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon, returning from a calf injury, had three sacks and two forced fumbles. Gordon’s big day was capped by a Michael Penix Jr. sack and forced fumble with 2:54 left and the Bears protecting a 31-23 lead.

Arizona Cardinals 18-16 Los Angeles Rams

Chad Ryland made his sixth field goal, a 43-yard field goal, as time expired, and the Arizona Cardinals rallied for a blowout victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Punter Ethan Evans gave the go-ahead extra point after Colby Parkinson caught a touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford with 47 seconds left for the vaunted Rams, who struggled all day before mounting a desperation final score. But the Cardinals immediately moved 36 yards to field goal range on Jalen Brooks’ long reception and an unnecessary roughness penalty on Josh Wallace. Three snaps later, Ryland buried his final kick to seal a shocking upset for Arizona. Evans made his first career kick after new Rams kicker Blake Grupe injured his knee on a tackle in the first quarter. Both teams are 2-4 this season.

Buffalo Bills 33-30 Las Vegas Raiders

Josh Allen passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns, and the Buffalo Bills (5-1) held off the Las Vegas Raiders (3-3). Allen’s second TD pass tied him with Hall of Famer Jim Kelly for the most in Bills franchise history. He showed his talent for improvisation on this throw, when he avoided a sack and threw the ball to Keon Coleman for a 12-yard touchdown. James Cook rushed for a three-yard touchdown with 4:43 left to give the Bills the lead for good, and Tyler Bass made it a two-point game with a late field goal.

Los Angeles Chargers 6-22 Kansas City Chiefs

Kenneth Walker III rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Patrick Mahomes passed for 272 yards to power the Kansas City Chiefs to victory. Kansas City improved to 5-0 to remain the AFC’s only undefeated team. The skidding Chargers (0-6) are off to the franchise’s worst start since the 2000 San Diego Chargers lost their first 11 games during a 1-15 season. Los Angeles coach Jim Harbaugh started five games as that team’s quarterback.

Baltimore Ravens 10-13 Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson connected with Jerry Jeudy for 33 yards to set up Andre Szmyt’s 37-yard field goal on the final snap, and the Cleveland Browns overtook the Baltimore Ravens. First-year Cleveland coach Todd Monken pulled off an improbable victory against the Ravens, for whom he spent the previous three seasons as offensive coordinator. Cleveland relied on its defense for long stretches and eventually got just enough playmaking from Watson. The Ravens had Tyler Huntley at quarterback for the second week in a row because Lamar Jackson suffered an ankle injury. Baltimore scored on its first two possessions but did nothing from there. Both teams are 4-2.

New York Jets 19-26 New England Patriots

Drake Maye threw three touchdown passes and the New England Patriots extended their winning streak to three games. Maye completed 18 of 32 passes for 235 yards. Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas and Hunter Henry had touchdown receptions for New England, while Douglas caught seven passes for 86 yards. New York’s Geno Smith completed 20 of 30 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted for the first time this season. The Jets (2-4) got four field goals from Jason Sanders and a game-high 11 tackles (six solo) from Jamien Sherwood. Sanders brought the Jets within 26-19 by scoring a 36-yard field goal with 32 seconds left, but New England (4-2) recovered the onside kick.

Pittsburgh Steelers 26-19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (OT)

Aaron Rodgers threw touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and overtime and Chris Boswell made four field goals to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a comeback victory in overtime. The Steelers (4-2) erased a 16-3 fourth-quarter deficit with 16 unanswered points in the period. The Bucs (1-5) tied the score at 19 with three seconds left on a 53-yard field goal by Chase McLaughlin. Rodgers led a 12-play, 70-yard drive, capped by a six-yard touchdown pass to Germie Bernard with 3:15 left in overtime. Jalon Daniels, making his third straight start for the injured ‌Baker Mayfield, raced 10 ‌yards to Tampa Bay’s 37 for a first down on fourth-and-9 on the ‌Bucs’ ensuing drive. Five plays later, Daniels was sacked on fourth down by Jalen Ramsey on a corner blitz to end the game.

Houston Texans 34-31 Jacksonville Jaguars

Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired, CJ Stroud threw three touchdown passes and the Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on the slippery grass of Wembley Stadium. Cam Little’s 60-yard field goal tied the game at 31-31 with just under two minutes remaining after Travis Hunter intercepted Stroud’s pass in the end zone. Hunter also had a seven-yard touchdown pass on the other end, becoming the fifth player in the Super Bowl era, including the playoffs, to score a touchdown and intercept a pass in the same game. Marvin Harrison Jr debuted for the 2-4 Texans as Houston reeled off back-to-back wins to gain ground on the AFC South-leading Jaguars (4-2).

New Orleans Saints 34-27 New York Giants

Tyler Shough threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score, and the New Orleans Saints (2-4) scored 34 straight points, hanging on to defeat the New York Giants (3-2-1) and end their three-game losing streak. Isaiah Stalbird forced a fumble on a kick return late in the first half, which shifted the momentum in the Saints’ favor. Giants fans flocked to the exits after Jameis Winston threw his second interception of the afternoon early in the fourth quarter, and the stands were half-empty by the time JJ McCarthy led several goals and narrowly missed an improbable comeback.

Tennessee Titans 26-20 Indianapolis Colts

Joey Slye kicked a game-clinching 49-yard field goal with 2:03 left Sunday as the visiting Tennessee Titans upset the Indianapolis Colts for their first win of the season. It was the third field goal of the game for Slye, who added a 44-yarder with 43 seconds remaining after Tennessee (1-5) got a fourth-down stop. Coming back from a 13-point halftime deficit gave head coach Robert Saleh his first win with the team. Cam Ward completed 11 of 22 passes for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Titans. Tennessee notched six sacks, including two each by Jeffery Simmons and ‌Jermaine Johnson II. Daniel Jones completed 22 of 42 passes for 269 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Indianapolis (2-4) while Jonathan Taylor ran for 94 yards on 21 carries.
