The biggest question heading into the Week 6 edition of “Sunday Night Football” was how the Dallas Cowboys would respond to their inexplicable no-show the previous week, particularly on defense. This unit has been mixed so far — and the offense remains in a slump of its own — while the Green Bay Packers took advantage of the dysfunction and took a 17-0 lead before halftime.
The Cowboys failed their first defensive test when they allowed the Packers to drive down the field on their first possession. Quarterback Jordan Love eviscerated Dallas through the air on a 90-yard touchdown run. But then they rebounded in a big way with what was initially called a pick six for linebacker Dee Winters. A review returned the ball to the spot of the interception, but it was nonetheless a takeaway for a team that began the week as the only one without a defensive interception.
Meanwhile, Green Bay did well by capitalizing on the Cowboys’ struggles. Two Matthew Golden drops on potential touchdowns cost them a few points, but they otherwise continued through the first two quarters to build on the momentum they found in Weeks 4 and 5 wins.
