CJ Gardner-Johnson sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct, and it was absolutely disgusting

CJ Gardner-Johnson has a history of bad behavior on the football field. Gardner-Johnson has been fined several times during his NFL career for dirty hits and chippy plays that crossed the line, and he was also ejected from a 2024 game with the Philadelphia Eagles for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Gardner-Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills during the offseason, and he was ejected from the team’s Week 6 game against the Las Vegas Raiders after an inappropriate interaction with Brock Bowers.

Gardner-Johnson and Bowers were speechless after a play, and the Bills defensive back spat on him as he walked back into the huddle. That’s a big no-no in the NFL, and the referees ejected Gardner-Johnson with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

The Bills then beat the Raiders, 33-30, to improve to 5-1 on the year. After the match, Gardner-Johnson spoke to the media and showed remorse for spitting on Bowers.

“I have to be a better player,” Gardner-Johnson said. I need to be a better vet. I let my emotions take over and hurt my team. I have to do better.

The referees admitted that he was sent off for spitting in the pool report after the match.

Football is a game of collision-based violence, but players on both sides must always respect each other. Gardner-Johnson is far from a star, but he can be a good player in his role when his head is on right. Hopefully this ejection teaches him a lesson, but I doubt it.
