The Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers will close out Week 6 on “Monday Night Football,” with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn faces mounting pressure after a 1-3-1 start to the season, as Washington looks to rebound from a puzzling gaffe by quarterback Jayden Daniels in overtime that resulted in a tie, rather than an opportunity to score the potential game-winning field goal.

The 49ers enter Monday night as one of three remaining undefeated teams in the league with a 5-0 record, coming off an impressive road win over their NFC West rival and defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level despite injuries to his receiving corps, with 1,196 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 2 interceptions through his first five games. He only took one sack all year.

The Washington Commanders made several roster changes ahead of Monday night’s showdown with the San Francisco 49ers, including placing starting running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt on injured reserve with a groin injury.
This will force Croskey-Merritt to miss the next four games, with a potential return against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11; commanders have week 7 off.
Croskey-Merritt currently leads the team with 67 carries this season for 239 yards rushing and two scores, adding another 40 yards through the air. He’s coming off his best game of the season, averaging 7.5 yards per carry against the New York Giants last week, when he aggravated the groin issue he first suffered in training camp.
That leaves the Commanders with fullbacks Rachaad White, Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols to carry the load for the time being with Croskey-Merritt out.
Point spread: 49ers -7.5
Moneyline Odds: 49ers -400, Commanders +315
Total points: Over/under 51.5
Maybe we’re getting caught up in something that seems too obvious because Daniels ran nine times for 103 yards last week in his return from an elbow injury in Dallas, but he also totaled 69 yards on seven carries in one half this Sunday afternoon. Without a traditional running back, Daniels will need to play a big role in the running game.
The 49ers have done well in their only matchup with a mobile quarterback this season, but Malik Willis doesn’t have the same big-play ability as Daniels.
The last time San Francisco defensive coordinator Raheem Morris confronted Daniels was during the quarterback’s rookie season, and Morris had no answers then — it was the only other time the Commanders quarterback ran for more than 100 yards. We will settle for 40 meters of rush Monday evening.
