Selena Gomez says ‘stupid’ nicotine vapes ‘changed my voice’

Selena Gomez is speaking out about her health again, sharing that her former vaping habit affected the way she sounded.

Gomez, the actor-singer-turned-billionaire founder of Rare Beauty, candidly told her followers over the weekend, “I won’t be able to change my voice,” sharing that she was “vaping a lot of nicotine” and trying to kick the habit. She shared her anti-vaping PSA via her Instagram Stories on Sunday.

“I just wanted to say that if you’re going through this or even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it,” Gomez, 34, continued. “It’s so stupid and it changed my voice.”

The negative effects of nicotine-based vapes and e-cigarettes have been the subject of much research, with some experts recently linking smoking alternatives to lung cancer and oral cancer. Vapes can also cause inflammation of lung tissue, negatively impact brain development, and be addictive, like other nicotine products.

Gomez didn’t elaborate on the exact effects of vaping on her voice, but said on her Instagram Story that she was “excited because I stopped” vaping. She also said she was hopeful in her efforts to stay away, even though it was “really hard.” “This sucks,” she finished her story.

The singer has long been open about her health, sharing her experiences with lupus and speaking about her mental health. Last December, Gomez clarified a change in her vocal tone, telling her fans on Instagram, “Sometimes things happen.”

“I get weird, my throat swells up inside sometimes,” she said at the time. “That’s it.”
