Julian Sayin’s season isn’t officially over yet, but he will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Ryan Day said Monday on Buckeye Roundtable that Ohio State’s starting quarterback will be out “at least several weeks” after being injured in the fourth quarter of the Buckeyes’ win over Indiana.
Although there have been rumors that Sayin will need season-ending surgery for the injury he suffered Saturday, Day said Sayin is still undergoing tests to determine the timeline for his recovery.
“It will take at least several weeks, but no updates at this time,” Day said. “They’re still going through some of their tests and some of their meetings.”
Sayin was injured on a sack by Indiana defensive tackle Mario Landino with just over eight minutes left in the Buckeyes’ 19-15 win over Indiana. As Landino punched Sayin, his right arm was pinned against his body.

After a brief on-field evaluation by Ohio State’s medical staff, during which he appeared unable to properly grip the ball, Sayin returned to the locker room. He returned to the sideline with a sling on his throwing arm.
The injury has huge implications for Ohio State’s upcoming games, as the Buckeyes will be playing without one of the best quarterbacks in the country. A 2025 Heisman Trophy finalist, Sayin completed 432 of 583 pass attempts (74.1 percent) for 5,617 yards and 51 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in 21 games as Ohio State’s starting quarterback since the start of last season.
Now, the Buckeyes will turn to Luke Fahey, a three-star recruit in the 2026 class who completed nine of 13 pass attempts for 203 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in limited action this season.
“He comes in every day prepared. I think he has the respect of the team, and now he’s going to be given a bigger role,” Day said of Fahey.
Tavien St. Clair, a five-star recruit in the 2025 class who completed five of nine pass attempts for 52 yards and a touchdown with one interception over two years as Ohio State’s third-string quarterback, will be the Buckeyes’ No. 2 QB behind Fahey with Sayin sidelined.
