Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin was blown away with his left leg in an air throw late in the first quarter of Washington’s Week 6 “Monday Night Football” game against the 49ers. It’s officially a knee injury and he was out for the rest of the game. After the match, Dan Quinn said he had no update but added that “the worry is it could be big.”
“There is fear,” he concluded.
McLaurin fell while running a route, clutching his knee, and was unable to make it to the sideline under his own power.
McLaurin, 31, has been a fixture for Washington since he was drafted in the third round in 2019. He missed one game (Week 4) with a hamstring injury, but he still leads the Commanders with 230 receiving yards this season, including a 27-yard catch early in Monday’s game.
McLaurin’s injury is just the latest for a snake-bitten Commanders team that lost Jayden Daniels (elbow) for a few games earlier this year and hasn’t had Laremy Tunsil all season after tearing his triceps in training camp. Marcus Mariota, Stefon Diggs, Sam Cosmi and Chig Okonkwo also missed time, and starting running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt also landed on IR this week.
Washington (1-3-1) trailed 14-3 when McLaurin left. Diggs, Okonkwo and rookie Antonio Williams are expected to be more involved in the future.
