A mother allegedly shot her 9-year-old son before turning the gun on herself in an “unthinkable” murder-suicide Monday, police say.
Shatayvia Alisha Calderon, 33, and Julian Calderon, 9, were found dead with gunshot wounds in their Indianapolis apartment Monday afternoon, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
A police spokesperson told the Post that the incident was “believed to be a murder-suicide in which the mother killed her son and then herself.”
“It’s unthinkable. And we’re here not only to investigate, but also to provide resources. Not just here on scene, but in the days, weeks that follow,” Officer Drew Brown told WTHR.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting two people had been shot at a condominium complex in the 4400 block of Village Lane just after 1 p.m., according to IMPD.
In an apartment, they discovered the mother and son who were pronounced dead at the scene by medical authorities. A firearm was also found at the scene.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting, but police confirmed they interviewed a cooperative witness.
