Keanu Reeves is in talks to team up with James Wan on the filmmaker’s latest project, “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil” at Paramount Pictures.
The Paramount Pictures film reimagines the 2019 Korean crime thriller starring Don Lee (also known as Ma Dong-seok), who is set to reprise his role opposite Reeves. The original film – which follows a police officer and a gangster as they reluctantly join forces to hunt down a serial killer – debuted to rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival that year.
Wan will direct the film, his first feature since 2023’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” He will also produce the project alongside Michael Clear and Jason Blum (via Blumhouse Atomic Monster), Lee (Big Punch Global), Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller (Balboa Productions), and Chris S. Lee (B&C Group. Lorenzo di Bonaventura also came on board to produce. The project has been in the works since 2019, with Wan coming on board in production this spring.
Eric Pearson wrote the final screenplay, based on previous drafts by Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland. Helgeland and Billy Acumen will serve as executive producers on the project.
Reeves is an action movie icon, headlining numerous franchises, from “The Matrix” films to the “John Wick” films. He last starred in the AppleTV comedy-drama “Outcome,” directed by Jonah Hill, and played Duke Caboom in “Toy Story 5.” He will next reprise his role as fan-favorite character Shadow in “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” which Paramount has dated for March 19, 2027. Reeves is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the actor’s involvement.
