Ramaswamy claims his campaign is behind ad featuring opponent’s mother
Ohio GOP gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy admitted his campaign was responsible for an ad featuring Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s ex-mother urging voters not to vote for her daughter.
“This is an ad from our campaign,” Ramaswamy said Tuesday, adding that he “would like this race and this election to be about the substantive issues that affect Ohioans. And unfortunately, Amy Acton has been hiding from those issues. She will not debate me. She does not allow cameras at her events. And I think her continuing record, certainly during this campaign, I would say, of spreading defamatory and derogatory lies about me and my family, deserves to be scrutinized.
“I never met Amy Acton, which is a regret,” he said, stressing that he would have liked to meet his rival. “I never met his mother either. She was not compensated.”
In the controversial video, Acton’s mother called her daughter a “liar.”
“I love my daughter. But when I saw her lying about her opponent – it’s not easy for a mother to say this – but Amy has a serious problem. She’s a liar,” Donna Arthur said in the video. “Don’t vote for people who lie. Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she will make your life better, you are wrong. It will only get worse.”
Acton’s campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment Wednesday, but released a statement Tuesday regarding the ad.
“The choice to use, and then stand by, Dr. Acton’s estranged and abusive mother, who remained married to her rapist stepfather until the day she died, shows Ohioans exactly who Vivek Ramaswamy is,” Acton campaign spokesperson Addie Bullock said in the statement released Tuesday.
“Ramaswamy took every opportunity possible to campaign against pedophiles, abusers and sexual predators while accepting over $100,000 from Epstein associates and mocking Dr. Acton for being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse,” the statement said. “Ramaswamy will do anything, including kissing child sex predators, to get what he wants. It’s not only disturbing, it’s disqualifying. Ohio deserves better.”
