The Giants have reportedly made their pick for this week’s starting quarterback.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that JJ McCarthy will get the green light against Jameis Winston for Sunday’s game in Houston. This will be McCarthy’s first start since being acquired in a trade with the Vikings earlier this season.
McCarthy replaced Winston as the Giants lost 34-10 to the Saints in the fourth quarter last Sunday. He went 11 of 21 for 243 yards, a touchdown and an interception while pulling the Giants to within 34-27, and he put the Giants inside the New Orleans 15-yard line before their final drive ended in an incompletion on fourth down.
McCarthy missed his rookie season with the Vikings after injuring his knee and made 10 starts between multiple injuries in his sophomore season. The Vikings opted to bring in Kyler Murray this offseason, but he has an opportunity to extend his run as the Giants try to stay atop the NFC East following Jaxson Dart’s torn ACL.
