Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was fined $250,000 for conduct toward NFL game officials, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday.
According to Breer, Sirianni was one of three head coaches fined $250,000 — along with Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and Jets coach Aaron Glenn — for their conduct toward NFL referees. This news comes from the league’s fall meetings in New York.
These fines would be suspended and “may be repealed in the event of good behavior”.
Sirianni, 45, is known as a fiery coach. We’ve seen him engage with players, coaches, fans and referees during his six years as head coach of the Eagles. The Eagles want Sirianni to be his authentic self, but even owner Jeffery Lurie has publicly expressed concern about Sirianni’s behavior toward officials.
In March 2024, Lurie addressed these concerns at the NFL’s annual league meetings in Orlando.
“I think, first of all, one of the things that makes Nick really good is that he’s genuine. He doesn’t hold back,” Lurie said. “It can also be negative sometimes. On the sidelines, you don’t want to make the referees angry. I always worry, you know, I want the referees to give us a fair amount, so I don’t want him to overreact. But I like his passion.
“So I think he recognizes that it can be a little counterproductive if he exaggerates his own passion, but you don’t want to stop where that passion comes from. So you have to find a happy medium. I think he wants to find a happy medium for what it is. I love his passion, though.”
