Injury Reporting Terms and Glossary

  • FP = Full participant in practice.
  • LP = Participant limited to practice.
  • DNP = Did not participate in training.
  • NIR = Not injury related.
  • PUP = Physically Unable to Participate in Roster.
  • IR = Injured reserve. Note: Only IR starters are listed.
  • Player Name* = Starter.

Definitions of injury designations:

Probable = The league defines a probable injury designation as a playing chance of 75% or greater. Historically, 95% of players designated as probable are active and playing on game day.

Questionable = The league defines a questionable injury designation as being “uncertain” as to whether or not the player will play. This replaces the old definition of having a 50% chance of playing. Historically, 70-75% of players with a questionable injury designation were active and playing on game day.

Questionable = The league defines a questionable injury designation to mean that the player is unlikely to participate in the game. Concretely, teams use this designation when a player has less than a 50% chance of dressing, and active in-game appearances under this designation remain rare. Historically, only about 6% of players with the Questionable designation are active and playing on game day.

Out = will not play. Players with this designation are not active on game day and league rules prohibit them from playing.

For the Vikings, plenty of good news on the injury front after their bye week.

First, Christian Darrisaw and TJ Hockenson are both in the final phase of concussion protocol, which is practicing, and they are both expected to complete the protocol and play on Sunday.

Jordan Mason is also back in practice and is expected to come off IR and play Sunday.

Jordan Addison and Charles Demmings are also back in practice after missing time with hamstring injuries and are also expected to play on Sunday.

Justin Jefferson and Brian O’Neill are still working through minor injuries, as is James Pierre, but all are expected to play on Sunday.

So, aside from those on IR, it should be all hands on deck for the Vikings on Sunday after some R&R during their bye week.

For the Colts, they have seven starters who did not practice Wednesday due to injury. They include linebacker Bryce Boettcher, cornerback Sauce Gardner, right guard Matt Gonglaves, punter Rigoberto Sanchez, right tackle Jalen Travis, cornerback Justin Walley and tight end Tyler Warren.

Sauce Gardner is their top cornerback, for whom they traded two first-round picks, and is expected to miss the Vikings game with a calf injury. It is considered weekly but is expected to miss time.

Tight end Tyler Warren missed the Colts’ last game with the same groin injury, so the fact that he’s still not practicing doesn’t bode well at this point for his play on Sunday.

Punter Rigoberto Sanchez suffered a foot injury last weekend and the Colts added a punter to their roster, so that’s also not a good sign for his availability on Sunday.

Cornerback Justin Walley’s injury is new. Not much else is known at this point, but his not practicing and Sauce Gardner already likely out Sunday could leave the Colts’ struggling secondary pretty thin at cornerback.

Linebacker is another position of concern with three linebackers on the injury report, including starter Bryce Boettcher, who did not practice Wednesday due to a groin injury. This injury is also new and not much else is known at the moment.

Finally, two Colts starting offensive linemen are on the injury report, including right guard Matt Gonglaves who did not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, which is news.

Ultimately, for the Colts, who fired their general manager after losing to the previously winless Tennessee Titans last weekend and falling to 2-4 on the season, this feels like an injury report for a team later in the season that was just eliminated from the playoffs. Rumor has it that the Colts may start trading away players to get a head start on a multi-year rebuild. These are the conditions where more guys on the injury report end up not playing.

We’ll see how that goes with injury updates tomorrow and Friday.
