UNITED STATES. Karoline Leavitt, former Trump spokesperson, joins ultra-conservative channel Fox News

Former White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt will join Fox News to deliver “commentary and analysis,” the channel announced Monday, which praised in a statement her “distinctive understanding of the current political landscape.”

It will debut on November 1st. “I look forward to bringing the unique perspective drawn from my experience as spokesperson for the White House, with the same energy and frankness that characterized my mandate,” commented the faithful ally of Donald Trump, already a very regular guest on the favorite channel of American conservatives when she was in office. Karoline Leavitt, who gave birth to her second child in the spring, left office at the end of August to devote herself to her family, while making it known that she intended to continue promoting the “Maga” (Make America Great Again) ideology. She has since joined “MAGA Inc”, a pro-Trump “super PAC”, an electoral financing structure. The Republican president has still not designated a successor, and the White House no longer organizes regular press briefings.

A frequent back and forth between media and politics

This kind of transition between the world of politics and that of the media is common in the United States, regardless of party. The progressive channel MS Now recruited Jen Psaki, former spokesperson for Democratic President Joe Biden, after his departure from the White House. Fox News already has Kayleigh McEnany in its ranks, who held the same position during Donald Trump’s first term.

Aged 28, Karoline Leavitt was the youngest person ever appointed to the highly exposed position of “Press Secretary”. His meteoric rise alongside Donald Trump illustrated the diffusion of Trumpist ideas among “Gen Z”. This New Hampshire native led an aggressive communications strategy against traditional media, while opening the doors of the White House to influencers and content creators committed to the Maga cause. Since his departure, the president’s hostility towards the press has gone up a notch: he tried to ban access to the White House from the CNN and MS Now channels as well as the Politico media, before a judge ordered the administration to reverse course.
