Quest Diagnostics has confirmed that patient health information or personally identifiable information was involved in a cybersecurity breach that prompted the medical testing giant to temporarily suspend access to several systems.
The New Jersey-based company said Thursday it has disabled access to its Quanum Lab Services Manager (LSM) platform after discovering unauthorized access on Wednesday. Quest plans to restore full functionality as of Friday.
The platform allows certain healthcare providers to order laboratory tests and access the results.
Quest said it believes some patient data was accessed, but is still investigating the specific information involved and how many people may have been affected.

The company also temporarily suspended access to its Essential Insights and LabHQ systems as a precaution, although it said no data had been accessed on those systems.
Despite the temporary restrictions, Quest said its core operations are not affected and its ability to serve patients has not been materially disrupted.
Healthcare providers who normally use Quanum LSM can continue to place orders via paper requests or through the company’s Quanum eLabs platform. Other electronic control systems remain operational.
Quest said it has stopped the unauthorized access and is working to restore the affected system. The company does not expect any testing delays for customers not using Quanum LSM.

In a filing Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Quest said it notified federal law enforcement authorities and brought in outside cybersecurity experts to assist in its investigation and response.
The company said it is working to identify affected patients and healthcare providers and will send notifications in accordance with applicable law.
Quest Diagnostics, a leading national provider of diagnostic testing services, reported 2025 revenue of approximately $11 billion.
The incident follows a previous cybersecurity breach involving a third-party billing provider that potentially exposed personal information belonging to millions of Quest patients.

In 2019, Quest revealed that American Medical Collection Agency reported unauthorized access to a system containing information associated with approximately 11.9 million Quest patients. The company said its own IT systems were not involved in the incident.
Quest did not disclose whether the latest breach would result in financial consequences and declined to comment further to FOX Business.
