Britt McHenry resigns from State Department after incident at Wizards game

Britt McHenry, former ESPN journalist and Fox News personality, is no longer press advisor to the US State Department, several media outlets report. This development comes after viral videos appear to show her throwing a drink at someone (after having a drink thrown at her) during an altercation in the stands during an NBA game.

Page Six reported Friday that McHenry was “forced to resign” on Thursday, a day after the alleged incident during the Washington Wizards’ home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks at Capital One Arena. McHenry later told Front Office Sports that she signed a resignation letter.

The State Department told both publications that it does not comment on internal personnel matters.

The incident reportedly began after a group seated behind McHenry began shouting insults at Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma about his fiancée, Winnie Harlow. McHenry reportedly came to Harlow’s defense.

The video footage published by TMZ appears to start a little later. It shows McHenry speaking to a male companion and an usher from her seat while fans seated around her can be heard making negative comments about her, some chanting “Kick her out!” »

As McHenry and her companion finally begin to leave on their own, a clear liquid can be seen hitting or coming close to hitting her in the back of the head. She responds by throwing a glass in the direction of this person. As she walks up the stairs into the aisle, McHenry is seen giving the middle finger and blowing kisses to the crowd while some people heckle her and throw napkins at her.

Later in one of the videos, McHenry appears to argue with a security guard near one of the entrances to the venue. As he gestures towards the exit, she looks stunned and asks, “What did I do?”

Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns and operates Wizards and Capital One Arena, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

McHenry worked at ESPN from 2014 to 2017. In 2015, she was suspended for a week after a video surfaced of her yelling and belittling a towing company employee. McHenry later apologized for the incident.

She announced her position at the State Department on social media last month.
