President Donald Trump turned on his predecessor Barack Obama early Sunday morning after attacking his administration while campaigning for Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.
“Obama was a blatantly incompetent president! “” Trump began in a message at 12:42 a.m. on his Truth Social platform.
“He paid Iran billions of dollars and gave them a path to nuclear weapons. He said crooked Hillary Clinton was going to WIN, he campaigned hard for her, and she lost in every direction and in every way. He then campaigned hard for Kamala, and likewise, she lost.”
Trump then turned to Islamophobic attacks to refer to El-Sayed, writing: “Now he is campaigning for a Muslim Brotherhood jihadist, who hates Jews, black people, AMERICANS and TRUMP, and he is going to lose too. He is a fake doctor, who runs what is considered the WORST CLINIC IN AMERICA.”
“I won Michigan, BIG, brought back the auto industry, the air base and everything else. And more jobs than ever before. Michigan doesn’t want an arrogant, open-border, jihadi fake doctor whose reputation will only get worse as more information comes to light – and there’s a lot of it. VOTE FOR MIKE ROGERS! He’ll never let you down! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The message came just hours after Obama – at one of his first rallies for this year’s midterm elections in Michigan, a rally he also used to support Michigan gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson (D) – denounced Trump’s “corruption,” “cruelty and chaos” and denounced the “insanity” of his administration.
Elsewhere, he appeared to link the attacks launched against El-Sayed – whose Muslim identity and background have been the focus of his Republican opponent Mike Rogers – with those he has faced from Trump through his racist “birther” conspiracy theories.
“Every time a movement builds to challenge this broken system, people who benefit from the status quo will say and do anything to stop this train from happening,” he said. “They will use lies, fear and division. And they might even use your name to suggest that you are dangerous and less than trustworthy, less patriotic and less American than them.”
He pointed out, “We’ve seen this movie before. I’ve been in it. I have a long birth certificate to prove it. This thing didn’t work on me, not in Michigan. It won’t work on Abdul. He’s in as complete Michigan as possible. Abdul was born here. He grew up here.”
