Mike Rogers awkwardly waits for applause after El-Sayed digs

Michigan Senate candidate’s representative. Mike Rogers (R-MI) heard nothing but crickets coming from a Trump rally when he made a joke at the expense of his opponent, Dr. Abdoul El-Sayed (D).

“And now he’s accepted campaign donations from organizations, as I said, and even from spokespeople for the Muslim Brotherhood,” Rogers said. “I’ll tell you, as a former FBI agent, I can tell you, we would call that a clue.”

Rogers’ “applause line” fell flat and he looked around the crowd before laughing inwardly. The crowd then finally realized that they should applaud, which they eventually did.

“But we know for sure that Abdul El-Sayed has no place in the United States Senate and he certainly does not represent us here,” Rogers added.

Rogers may be making his claims about the right-wing Muslim Brotherhood Washington Free Beacon.

“Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has raked in thousands of dollars in campaign donations from individuals linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, radical Islamist and terrorist movement, according to campaign finance records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon,” the outlet reported earlier this month.

“El-Sayed’s donors include the former spokesperson for Egypt’s official Muslim Brotherhood political party as well as individuals named in a directory of Muslim Brotherhood leaders that federal investigators submitted as part of a landmark terrorism financing trial,” the report said.

El-Sayed said he “absolutely” disavowed the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization and condemned Rogers’ allegations.

El-Sayed has not publicly discussed individual donations made to his campaign.

Shortly after Rogers’ speech, President Donald Trump repeated the Muslim Brotherhood’s claims, called El-Sayed a jihadist and said he wanted to install sharia law in the United States.

“He would be the only senator who would have to go through a metal detector before being allowed into the Senate. I want him to have a metal detector,” Trump said. “If Abdul ascends to the Senate, he will have access to our country’s national security, and his vote will wield power over our military, our borders, our homeland security, and much more.”
