14 board games worth buying in Amazon’s October Prime Day deals

Amazon’s October version of Prime Day has officially kicked off, and the retailer has already offered big discounts on tons of classic board games. One of the best deals brings the latest release of Catan down to its lowest price ever, but you’ll find plenty of other discounts from big publishers like Asmodee and Hasbro. In other words, now is the perfect time to expand your tabletop collection and plan fall game nights.

We’re tracking the best board game deals on Amazon this week

Starting at the top, the latest release of Settlers of Catan, one of the most iconic strategy games of all time, has dropped to its lowest price of the year with a 40% discount. This resource management game is fairly accessible to all experience levels, making it an easy choice for casual game nights. Other classic board games like Ticket to Ride have dropped to their lowest prices since the previous Prime Day.

For more experienced tabletop players, we recommend something like Pandemic, which features longer cooperative campaigns. If you’re just looking for something quick and cheap, you can pick up the classic Candy Land or the fast-paced Monopoly Deal card game for under $15.

Thematic editions also on sale

Amazon also has deals on specific themed editions of board games. These are typically based on more casual, family-friendly versions of classic games, like Bluey’s version of Monopoly Jr, offering the incentive of a franchise tie-in to bring your family to the gaming table.

Some of these themes also offer a little extra for adults, like the Duel for Middle-Earth board game which we consider to be one of the best Lord of the Rings games money can buy. However, according to our reviewer Matt Thrower, it’s only really worth it if you don’t already own the original 7 Wonders Duel game.

Should we wait for lower prices?

Board games already on sale are unlikely to see their prices drop, even during Black Friday. However, I think we’ll see further discounts on big hitters like Wingspan who are currently missing from this list. We have yet to see any solid deals in collectible card games and tabletop franchises like Warhammer.
