SPOILER ALERT! This article contains details from Tuesday night’s episode of Dancing with the stars.
We are officially a month away from season 35 of Dancing with the starsand competitors begin to feel the pressure of competition.
After Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart were eliminated last week (which woke up the remaining couples because they certainly weren’t the worst by a mile), the contestants all face Mariah Carey in Week 4.
Reality TV star Ciara Miller with Brandon Armstrong. The reality TV star Really wanted to earn some 7s for her jazz number to “Emotions” and prove that she’s meant to last in this competition. Carrie Ann Inaba called it her “best dance yet, my dear”. Take these 7, girl! SCORE: 21 of 30
Paralympic athlete Ezra Frech with Daniella Karagach. These two came out in fine form with another fiery performance, this time dancing a rumba to “Anytime You Need a Friend.” Derek Hough was very impressed: “It was really sophisticated. It was.” SCORE: 24 of 30
Actor Harry Shum Jr. with Jenna Johnson. They’re looking for another set of solid scores from the judges for their tango to “It’s Like That.” This week Jenna is going on the Grey’s Anatomy together with her famous partner to practice between takes. Fun fact: Harry also danced in the original music video for this song. “A hot tango from a man on a mission! Sharp as a knife. So intense. I mean, it gave me whiplash!” » said Bruno Tonioli. Bonus points for the Joy reunion with the old DWTS champion Amber Riley is back in the ballroom to sing for this one. SCORE: 24 of 30
Actress Jenna Dewan with Val Chmerkovskiy. Jenna is frustrated by the judges’ comments, but she wants to take their criticism seriously. This week, she wants to focus on a softer, slower side of her dancing with a rumba to “My All.” Attention season 35, Jenna Dewan has found her rhythm! All Derek Hough could do was stand and applaud. “All I have to say is: There she is.” SCORE: 24 of 30
Reality TV star Tyler Cameron with Sharna Burgess. Tyler made it through last week thanks to Taylor’s elimination, but he seems to know he needs to step up a gear if he wants to go further in the competition. This week, he and Sharna danced a foxtrot to “#Beautiful.” The color, well, almost everyone was surprised! The man can move! “The improvement is incredible. You must be proud of yourself,” Bruno told him. SCORE: 21 of 30
Reality TV star Maura Higgins with Mark Ballas. THE Traitors The duo finds their rhythm and Maura settles into her obvious natural affinity for dancing. This week, they begin a waltz on “If It’s Over”. She has danced in the frame before, but now she wants to improve and aim for higher scores. “I feel like right now the world needs this kind of beauty!” Carrie Ann exclaimed. SCORE: 25 out of 30 (a 9 from Carrie Ann! Maura falling to the ground in disbelief says it all.)
Late Night Companion Guillermo Rodriguez with Whitney Carson. These two went to New York to rehearse this week, since Guillermo is there for his day job. They dance a samba to “Obsessed”. As Witney says, “Nothing can really prepare you for samba.” But he really tries. And hey, the steps he took (however few they were) were on time! “Look, it wasn’t really samba, but it was 100% Guillermo,” Derek says. SCORE: 15 out of 30
Savannah Bananas midfielder Jackson Olson with Emma Slater. Jackson took a short break from rehearsals this week to celebrate his birthday, but he’s still pushing hard to come back strong after some lukewarm feedback from the judges in week three. He performs a waltz to “Without You”. There must have been something in the air this week, because he looked like a completely different dancer. “I’m almost seeing you for the first time,” Bruno told him. SCORE: 21 of 30
Actress Tatiana Ali with Jan Ravnik. THE Fresh Prince The star is living a childhood dream by dancing to Mariah Carey. And she had the pro tipped off this week, as Jan toured with the pop star. They do a jazz dance to “Fantasy”. After last week, can anyone be surprised that she killed him? Carrie Ann wanted her to have more energy for a jazz routine. Derek and Bruno agree. “But overall, I love seeing what you do,” Derek said. SCORE: 20 out of 30
Comedian and podcaster Connor Wood with Rylee Arnold. Rylee, Connor I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but you tend to include grinding choreography in all your routines. Well, the tradition continues this week, as they dance a rumba to “Touch My Body.” I mean, what’s a girl to do? Unfortunately the hips weren’t moving, but he still did a nice worm. “There are a lot of times where you play it safe,” Derek says. Bruno loved it. “Dashing!” SCORE: 19 of 30
Actress Julia Stiles with Ezra Sosa. Julia is in great shape after receiving her highest scores last week. She really needs to impress this week with a Viennese waltz to “Vision of Love” if she wants to continue this positive momentum. “For me, it was a major breakthrough,” Carrie Ann said. Well, ok then! SCORE: 21 of 30
Olympian Amber Glenn with Pasha Pashkov. There’s a lot of pressure to close out the night, especially with the couple coming away with the first 8 of the season and finding themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard last week. This time, they dance a rumba to “Hero”. Pasha calls dancing “the ultimate test” of their synchronicity as a couple. Turns out they didn’t need to worry at all. “You never lost the ability to fill the room,” Bruno says. SCORE: 23 of 30
Who’s coming home?
The competition is getting tough, so there aren’t many weeks where Guillermo can keep going, but somehow, Ciara Miller and Brandon Armstrong are going home Tuesday night.
Next week is Super Bowl night. Stay tuned to see what this means.
