Less than two weeks before his apostolic trip to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, Pope Leo XIV renewed his “great joy and enthusiasm” to undertake this trip from November 6 to 17.

A press release published Monday by the Press Office of the Holy See confirmed that the trip will take place according to the previously published schedule.

The Pope’s trip “will provide opportunities to strengthen the bonds of communion with local Churches, encourage the faithful in their mission and bring a message of faith, hope and peace to the people of Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, encountering the faith of their peoples and sharing with them the hope and peace that Christ brings to our world.”

Pope Leo expressed hope that the visit to Latin America will strengthen the commitment of Christians in proclaiming the Gospel.

“I look forward to returning to the continent where I have lived so many moments of my life,” the Pope said in the statement. “May this trip be an opportunity for us to open our hearts to one another, to strengthen our communion as brothers and sisters and to renew our commitment to proclaim the Gospel with joy. »

Concerning the Pope’s recovery after the October 13 surgery, the statement said that the Holy Father’s recovery “continues to progress, in accordance with the favorable assessments communicated by his medical team.”

“As previously reported, the surgical procedure was carried out successfully and without complications. Subsequent medical examinations confirmed that the disease was localized and no further oncological treatment was necessary,” the statement added.

The statement noted that Pope Leo has gradually returned to his activities while adjusting his daily schedule in consultation with his doctors “to prioritize his recovery while continuing to fulfill the responsibilities of his ministry.”

“He maintained important appointments and public engagements, remaining attentive to the needs of each day and granting appropriate rest periods,” the statement said.

The Pope remains “deeply grateful for the prayers and affection he received from around the world and for the dedicated care of the medical professionals who accompanied him during his convalescence.”

The press release from the Holy See Press Office then refers to the words of Dr. Luigi Carbone on the recovery of the Pope.

“Dr Luigi Carbone confirms that the Holy Father’s convalescence after the operation continues, and the latest medical examinations attest to his good health and favorable clinical condition,” the press release said. “Based on his current clinical condition, as well as the instrumental and laboratory tests carried out, there are no contraindications that would prevent him from undertaking his next apostolic journey to Latin America as planned. The Pope is following medical recommendations with great care and diligence, and with deep determination to continue serving the Church.”
