Season 35 of Dancing with the stars is heating up — and the competition is narrowing as more celebrities are sent home each week.
The ABC show debuted on September 15 with a new group of celebrities hoping to follow in the footsteps of season 34 champion Robert Irwin.
This year’s cast includes familiar faces from across the entertainment industry, including Joy star Harry Shum Jr., 10 things I hate about you actress Julia Stiles and The traitors“Maura Higgins.
Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli return to the judges’ table, while Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough return as hosts for their fourth consecutive season. Shirley Ballas, who is the mother of professional dancer Mark Ballas and head judge of the British version of the show, appeared as a guest host on Tuesday.
But who was the last celebrity eliminated from the competition? Here’s what happened.
Who left “Dancing with the Stars” last night?
Week 7’s Horror Movie Night ended with two couples leaving the competition, with no elimination on last week’s Dedication Night. The results combined the judges’ scores and viewer votes from Week 7 with the judges’ scores and viewer votes carried over from Week 6.
This week’s unlucky couples? The bachelorette Star Tyler Cameron and his partner, Sharna Burgess, returned home with Savannah Bananas baseball player Jackson Olson and his partner, Emma Slater.
Olson’s exit, in particular, came as a surprise after she tied for fifth place with Maura Higgins, who stayed in and beat the judges’ scores of Julia Stiles and Tatyana Ali. But the combined results of the two weeks were not enough to keep him in the competition.
Cameron called the experience “amazing” and said Burgess “has been so good to me.” He added: “You saw me upset up there, I was disappointed in myself because I feel like I let her down because she gave me so much. I have a special woman in my life now, I’m very lucky.”
Olsen said: “I’ve been wanting to take part in it since last year and I made a bunch of videos about it and I got into it and I had the most amazing partner, Emma, so this journey has been amazing.”
At the top of the leaderboard, Shum and professional partner Jenna Johnson (whose Week 5 lift sparked the controversy that led to Val Chmerkovskiy’s week-long suspension) earned 10s from each judge for their contemporary routine — the first perfect score of the season.
Chmerkovskiy, back on the dance floor, and his celebrity partner, Jenna Dewan, scored 37 points, meaning they are tied for second place with Connor Wood and professional dancer Rylee Arnold.
Shirley Ballas’ appearance didn’t mean she scored high on Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas. The British judge gave his son a score of 7 out of 10, while Inaba gave him a score of 9 and Hough and Tonioli gave him an 8.
