Abdul El-Sayed widens his lead over Mike Rogers to 7 points according to the latest Michigan Senate poll

Democrat Abdoul El-Sayed increased his lead in the polls to 7 percentage points over the Republican Mike Rogersa former congressman, among likely voters in a U.S. Senate race in Michigan.

Mitchell Research & Communications conducted the statewide poll Oct. 26-27 for CBS Detroit and other Michigan television stations. He surveyed likely voters in the General elections of November 3.

“El-Sayed is in charge for a big victory on November 3,” the researchers said.

El-Sayed was the choice of 51% of likely voters, compared to Rogers at 44%, in the latest Mitchell poll. Three percent were undecided, and third-party candidates each received 1 percent or less. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.9 percentage points, the research firm said, at a confidence level of more than 95%.

The late October poll of 636 likely voters, using online panels as well as survey links sent to the cell phones of randomly selected registered voters, was weighted by demographics and election results from 2022 and 2024 to project likely turnout in 2026.

Voting and making decisions

There are also more people surveyed who say they have already voted or voted by mail: 28% at the end of October, compared to 11% at the beginning of October.

The absentee voting season had just started in Michigan when the first poll was taken. The second survey was carried out just after the in-person voting season begins started in Michigan.

Researchers said Rogers did not consolidate Republicans (91%), just as El-Sayed consolidated Democrats (94%). Independents favored El-Sayed over Rogers 52% to 38%, compared to 46% to 34% in the previous poll.

The previous surveytaken Oct. 1 by Mitchell researchers, indicated that El-Sayed was the overall choice of 45.6 percent of likely voters, and Rogers was the choice of 41.4 percent, a gap of 4.2 points. The Oct. 1 poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points, the research firm said, with a confidence level of more than 95 percent.

El-Sayed led 56% to 39% among women, while Rogers led 49% to 46% among men. El-Sayed led by wide margins among voters ages 18 to 44, and Rogers led 62% to 35% among voters 65 and older. The subgroup results have larger margins of error because the sample sizes are smaller, the researchers noted.

The campaign

El-Sayed and Rogers became the top two candidates in this race after winning their respective party’s primaries in August.

The vacant seat is the one currently held by Senator Gary Peters, who announced in January 2025 that he would resign at the end of his current term in the Senate. Peters has since accepted a role co-directs a policy center at the University of Southern California.

El-Sayed and Rogers meet for televised debates in Michigan October 8 And October 21.

A debate was also proposed September 15but Rogers said he did not agree to the expected format and did not participate.
