The Republican senator. Lisa Murkowski endorsed a Democrat for governor this week as she mulls her own re-election decision. Amid speculation about her retirement, political operatives and longtime observers say that doesn’t necessarily give a clue as to what she’s thinking.
Murkowski supported Democratic candidate Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins rule one’s home state Tuesday, saying he would “serve all Alaskans, regardless of party.”
His decision marks a break with his party, which has three candidates in next week’s four-choice general election. President Donald Trump supported the GOP candidate Bernadette Wilson to succeed the outgoing GOP governor. Mike Dunleavy.
This could be interpreted by some as an indication that Murkowski might consider retiring rather than seeking re-election in 2028 — or positioning herself to win by appealing from across the aisle, as she has in the past. Asset has repeatedly attacked the senator and could rally Alaska Republicans to oust her.
