Trump ignored information about Chinese Nvidia spy to protect company’s shares, report says

In this article published earlier this month, The New York Times detailed how Alice Huang appeared to be getting closer and closer to Jensen Huang, citing several photos of them together. This includes a photo at an event where she allegedly bragged, “I bet I can get Jensen here,” and then he arrived in his trademark leather jacket for shots of whiskey.

Rizzo said it was common for Nvidia’s CEO to attend parties with customers and partners, where he discussed “market updates.” A source told The New York Times that Jensen Huang had always planned to attend the party.

“Jensen’s interactions with Ms. Huang are neither unusual nor unexpected,” Rizzo said. “Meetings with clients are part of a CEO’s job; Jensen speaks with thousands of client executives each year.”

However, the US government has been investigating Megaspeed since 2024 and has found suspicious boxes containing Nvidia equipment that appear ready to be shipped rather than installed. Earlier this year, the Justice Department took over the investigation from the Commerce Department, and Megaspeed remains under scrutiny even though Nvidia’s investigations revealed no evidence that the company was helping China avoid violations of export restrictions.

Aaron Bartnick, deputy director for technology security and governance under the Biden administration, told the New York Times that Megaspeed had raised “a lot of red flags.” Among them are “the company’s ownership claims and possible ties to sanctioned entities, This should have made Nvidia executives question whether they should have allowed the company access to its AI chips.

“It’s hard to see any justification for taking that risk,” Bartnick said.
