Justice Department subpoenas California election workers in investigation into non-citizen voting

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Los Angeles County election officials received grand jury subpoenas immediately after Election Day as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to investigate alleged non-citizen voting in California.

County Clerk-Recorder Dean Logan The office on Thursday released copies of subpoenas sent to three employees asking them to appear at a federal courthouse in Orange County on Nov. 4, the morning after Election Day.

Subpoenas demand documents and communications related to letters from California Secretary of State Shirley Weber exchanged with the Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin and Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter linked to the alleged voting of non-citizens.

The subpoenas also seek documents on verifying and preventing the participation of ineligible voters in elections, as well as documents indicating that illegal voting took place.
