The Galaxy S27 Ultra chipset saga continues, here’s the latest twist

Which chipset the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use has become a real saga over the past few months. In July, it was announced that the Ultra would receive a Snapdragon chip worldwide, while the rest of the lineup would use the Exynos 2700 outside of North America. Then, in early September, insiders claimed that Samsung was building Exynos 2700-powered S27 Ultras for Korea and Europe.

In early October, Samsung reportedly began mass-producing the Exynos 2700, with the decision on the Ultra still pending, and a few days later a new insider tip claimed that the S27 Ultra would only be available with a Qualcomm chipset. Mid-month, a report emerged that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 was running too hot in Samsung’s testing, which Qualcomm quickly denied. And last week, the Exynos 2700 reportedly once again beat Qualcomm’s chip in internal tests.

Today, Ice Universe weighed in with the latest installment, claiming that so far there is still no sign of the Galaxy S27 Ultra using the Exynos 2700 in Europe. South Korea, on the other hand, remains uncertain, according to the informant.

If true, European buyers will get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in their S27 Ultras, while the Korean model could still go either way. Obviously, nothing is final until Samsung makes it official, and judging by how this saga has played out so far, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a twist or two before then.
