Halloween will mark the death of Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. It’s no ghost story: The 56-year-old mall is closing its doors on October 31.

Some of its anchor tenants will remain open: Barnes and Noble, Boscov’s and the AMC cinema. The remainder must be removed to prepare the site for demolition.

During a recent visit Wednesday, the mall already seemed dead. There were no online stores open and the food court was deserted. The empty hallways were mostly occupied by nostalgic villains and mall walkers.

Bob Holmes, of Bensalem, was there to get some exercise for the last time.

“I lost a lot of weight walking here,” he said. “It’s become a ghost town.”

Jeff Cundari, who grew up in nearby Trevose, came out of nostalgia.

“My greatest memory here would have been around 1983, I would have been about 6 or 7 years old,” he said. “I remember coming with my brother. There was Sam Goody across the street from Barnes and Noble. I bought my first album. It was ‘Weird Al Yankovic in 3D’.”
