Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have no plans to apologize to Prince William and Kate Middleton for their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 – despite reports claiming otherwise.
“It’s totally rubbish,” royal reporter Tom Sykes told Page Six on Wednesday of the rumors.
The “Dukes” author noted that a source close to Harry dismissed the apology allegations as “made up.”
“And I believe them,” Sykes said. “Harry always said he would never apologize for anything.”
The writer understands that, like the Duke of Sussex, the Duchess of Sussex has no regrets about this explosive discussion.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield also said the fodder had no credibility.
“Prince Harry and Meghan remain defiant,” the “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered” podcast host told Page Six on Wednesday. “My own sources told me this story was absolutely false.”
“If anything, the trend has remained consistent,” she said, adding, “I would treat claims that they now miss Oprah and are preparing to ‘eat crow’ with serious skepticism.”
On Tuesday, the Daily Express reported that the As Ever founder and Harry planned to “express their regrets” to members of the royal family following their interview with Winfrey.
“Harry and Meghan always knew, ever since they decided to return to the UK, that they would need to eat humble pie,” the source told the outlet.
“Their only big regret about leaving the royal family for the United States was their interview with Oprah, and Meghan knows her biggest mistake was claiming that a member of the royal family had discussed Archie’s skin color,” the source continued.
The report stated that Harry was “angry with his family at the time” and that Markle supported his views.
“But they now realize what a low blow it was. They both know they were being brash and realize they went too far,” the Daily Express source claimed, adding that Markle and Harry’s long-term plans for their return to the UK include burying the hatchet with the Prince and Princess of Wales.
“They want to focus on the future and hope that will include a reconciliation at some point,” the source said. “They really want to sit down so they can respond to what they said, and Meghan will apologize.”
In Winfrey’s infamous 2021 interview, Markle and Harry didn’t shy away from airing family secrets in a two-hour prime-time special on CBS.
Markle, who was pregnant with Prince Archie, 7, at the time of the encounter, claimed a member of the royal family had “several” conversations expressing concerns about the color of their son’s skin and “how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
She also claimed she was told Archie would not have a royal title and would not be entitled to security.
“I’ll never share that conversation, but at the time it was awkward; I was a little shocked,” Harry said, without addressing the controversy further.
Markle shared in the interview that she had suicidal thoughts after joining the royal family. She also claimed that it was Middleton who made her cry while planning her wedding and not the other way around.
In 2020, Harry and Markle finally made the decision to step down from their royal duties and live with Archie and their daughter, Lilibet, 5, in Montecito, California.
Their move and explosive interviews sparked an ongoing feud with William and Middleton, and they have yet to make amends.
In August, the couple shocked the world by returning to the UK after living in California for six years.
Upon their return, King Charles III, 77, made a rare statement clarifying that his youngest son and daughter-in-law remain private citizens and will not take on any official royal responsibilities.
Since then, Markle, 45, and Harry, 42, have kept a low profile – although they have been spotted on a few low-key outings in the Cotswolds, where they are currently said to be living.
While Charles seems to be warming up to Markle and Harry, William and Kate continue to give the Sussexes the cold shoulder.
