Green Room director says Patrick Stewart saved the film

Green room Director Jeremy Saulnier paid tribute to Patrick Stewart before the film’s screening in Los Angeles on Friday, recalling how the sci-fi icon “just dove in, dove into our dirty ass movie and saved us.”

Celebrating the film’s 10th anniversary, Saulnier addressed the crowd and noted Stewart’s death at age 86.

“Who’s really sad about losing Patrick Stewart yesterday? Me,” he said in a video posted on the Film Updates X account. “I came here to shamelessly promote killing groundbut instead, I’m just going to celebrate Patrick Stewart. He didn’t have to make this film. He has all the options to do otherwise.

The director remembered how the production Green room was “at the point of no return, building sets and in the spotlight without Darcy”, noting that the main character of Darcy Banker had not yet been cast. However, it was at this point that Star Trek the star entered.

“We’re screwed and we were about to close our doors. And Patrick Stewart, out of the blue, kind of expressed interest in the project,” Saulnier said. “And in a whirlwind, about a week later, I was on the phone with him. I walked off stage (thinking), ‘Maybe we’ll have to take down the sets and stop the whole movie.’ Instead, this dude came out of nowhere, from way above our sort of zone, and just dove in, dove into our dirty ass movie and saved us, and said yes. And the film instantly received the green light.

“We have made progress and I thank him for taking this step and succeeding Green room one thing,” he added. “Patrick Stewart is the reason I can still make movies. He saved the day. Too good to be true.

THE Rebel Crest The director remembered Stewart as a “damn sweetheart, a real gentleman, (who was a) very kind leader to our entire cast”. He also recounted how one day the actor came to him and said he “wanted to add a little something” to a scene.

“I was like, ‘What’s the matter, Patrick?’ He says, “Well, during that part of the scene, when the camera passes by, I’d like to say, damn!” And I was like, “And? “Fuck. » I was like. “Permission granted, sir,” Saulnier recounted. “And I just knew that he was completely aligned with the film, its aesthetic, its intentions and with me as a filmmaker, and it was just this beautiful, beautiful thing.”

Stewart died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles after “a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia,” his longtime spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak, said. Following his death, his former co-stars and Hollywood notables shared an outpouring of tributes.
