Tony Hawk kicked out of the park while recreating Pro Skater 3

Tony Hawk, skateboarding legend, video game superstar and last to die in the Great Uprising, has inspired culture for generations. Ever since Neversoft brought it to PlayStation in 1999, Hawk has been a household name, with the video game series inspiring skateboarders on the couch and in the half-pipe alike. Want to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3he went to the real-world Los Angeles park recreated in the game. Only to be escorted away by security.

“Happy 25th THPS3! » Posted the Birdman himself. “We were kicked out of Pershing Square during filming today.”

Although unnamed in the game, the Los Angeles scene Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 is clearly inspired by Pershing Square, a business park located in the city’s financial district. With its distinctive modernist features by architect Ricardo Legorreta, the crescent-shaped stone benches and large red orbs provided an elegant backdrop for the 2001 extreme sports game. It still remains in the city today, largely unchanged, along with the nearby car wash with a large blue obelisk.

As such, recreating the beloved video game should have made for easy content. To the Ramones Blitzkrieg-BopHawk walks through Pershing Square, revisiting the sights, recreating the inactive, shaking stance of his virtual avatar. Leaving most of the tricks to his own devices on PlayStation, Hawk and his team were only able to film a limited amount before being kicked off site by security.

“She (security) just kicked us out,” Hawk posted. “It was very disappointing.”

The third installment in the series was the first to release on PlayStation 2. To date, it is not only considered one of the best in the series, but it is also tied with Grand Theft Auto 3 as Metacritic’s best on console. The game was remade in 2025, as part of the Iron Galaxy project. Tony Hawk’s Professional Skater 3 + 4 pack. While the first set was greeted with a parade of ticker tapes, the reception to the second was a little softer. Fans young and old continue to be frustrated because having new, no-frills entries in a legacy skateboard series feels like pulling teeth, when they could instead lose them to a sloppy rail.
