BATH BEACH, Brooklyn (WABC) — The NYPD has released an image of Katie Suarez, the woman who remains in critical condition after being stabbed in the neck while jogging in Brooklyn Friday evening.
Police are asking anyone who saw Suarez between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. Friday near the eastbound bike path along Belt Parkway, between Bay 8th Street and Bay 17th Street, to come forward as investigators continue to piece together what happened.
The release of the image marks a new development in the investigation into the attack, which police sources said left the 28-year-old woman seriously injured while she was training for the New York marathon.
The stabbing happened shortly after 8 p.m. Friday near Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue. Sources said Suarez was jogging along the path when she was attacked. She was later found by her father, who went looking for her when she did not return home.
Police have not identified any suspects or announced a motive.
Flowers and candles were placed in front of Suarez’s house.
Neighbors expressed shock at the attack.
“It’s really sad. When it’s so close to my house, it’s so unfortunate, and I mean, it’s terrible,” one neighbor said.
The stabbings have sparked concern among residents who use the area recreationally.
“I’d be a little more on guard now, just, you know, to see who’s around me, maybe they would in safer times,” another resident said.
Police said they are using every tool at their disposal in the investigation, including K-9 units, dive teams, drones and a Crime Stoppers truck.
Meanwhile, New York State Senator Steve Chan is calling for additional lighting along the way.
“They rebuilt this walkway that goes across 17th Avenue, so with that walkway, they also laid new cables on that side. I know there will be some lights on that side, but they need more,” Chan said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYPD.
