DETROIT — Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was breathing and alert when he was taken off the field on a board and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, Lions coach Dan Campbell told Brad Galli in a postgame interview on the Lions Radio Network following Detroit’s 19-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday (Nov. 1).
“I don’t know anything more,” Campbell told Galli. “Thoughts and prayers are with Jack. I would ask everyone to do the same.”
Jack Campbell (neck) was carted off the field after participating in a tackle on Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson with 14:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. Campbell remained motionless on the field for several minutes and play was stopped while medical staff placed him on a backboard.
“Thoughts and prayers are with Jack Campbell and his family,” Dan Campbell said after the game. “He’s in care. We don’t have any new information. We’ll keep you updated as it happens, but we’re thinking about him. We’re thinking about him.”
The Lions announced at 3:55 p.m. that Jack Campbell was being transported to a local hospital. About three hours later, the Lions said Campbell “will remain at a local hospital this evening, for continued evaluation and monitoring.”
Jack Campbell rose quickly after first round selection
Campbell was one of the Lions’ top picks (18th overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Iowa, where he won the William V. Campbell Trophy, known as the “Academic Heisman” award, and the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker.
Moving to the Lions, he quickly solidified his role in the middle of Detroit’s defense. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2025, his third professional season.
Campbell is 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 246 pounds. His wife, Megan, with whom he welcomed his first child this summer, joined him in the ambulance, according to published reports. Cooper James Campbell was born on July 3.
Megan was a college basketball player at Drake University.
