Reddit user pdfu found hidden clues in HomeView 27.2 code that Apple could add security camera features to its smart home hub. The channels describe a security camera mode with motion detection, live streaming and recording options, as well as privacy features. According to pdfu, there is a setup page that even explicitly states: “Your HomeView can be used as a security camera with HomeKit Secure Video.” »
Apparently, the video feeds will only be visible to members of the house, and will display an indicator light and play a sound when someone watches the camera feed or when it starts recording. House members will also receive a notification whenever settings are changed to Safe Video Mode. It will also include customizable options on what to detect, stream or record, depending on whether you’re home, away or asleep.
Some have wondered why Apple didn’t allow HomeView to serve as a security camera at launch, and the company hasn’t said anything that suggests the features are coming. But given the crucial importance of privacy in Apple’s marketing, the company may be waiting to refine these features before launch.
